Now, in 2019 and beyond, we know it is so important to be visible.
Not just being visible on Facebook but also sharing your content on other sources that you may not own, such as publications that are relevant to your industry.
Back in the day, your article would be on someone else’s website and you would wonder…
“How can I capitalize on this?”
“What can I do to benefit from this, really?”
Aside from the audience reading it, there was not much else to capitalize on your efforts.
Now that we have paid advertising, we have used articles in our retargeting campaigns with for our clients. We love to include articles that they publish on various websites because it helps us increase their social proof and establish their authority to their audience.
Let’s say you have readers of Forbes, Adweek and INC. and you happen to be a contributor for those sites. Those readers may come across your article and may or may not check you out because of the piece you wrote. Which could mean a loss in potential leads.
But if you instead send traffic directly to that article you wrote as a contributor, you are then able to retarget these audiences. You are able to do this with a tool called vastclicks.com.
This tool enables you to track people that you send to other various websites, that you don’t own.
Mind blowing, right?
It is possible!
This comes with limitations however. You can’t target everybody or track all the data from people who go to Forbes. It’s just tracking the audiences that you personally send there.
So let’s say you have a podcast on Itunes.
(Which by the way, I love how easy it is to have a podcast up and running to have content flowing through there, which is why I included a training for it in my visibility code program!)
With your podcast, you’ll want to incorporate it into your marketing strategy by simply doing a traffic campaign that will send people over to listen to your podcast.
Next, you would include a banner at the bottom of the page with your call to action. It could be your photo and text that reads “Download the guide” that accompanies this podcast. Or it could be ‘Join my Facebook group,’ or it could be ‘Come over here and book a call,’ whichever call to action you’d like them to take next.
This is a game changer because instead of these audiences being lost within these pages you don’t own, now you can capture their information with this banner and call to action by using vastclicks.com.
How it works is:
- You would copy the URL that you want to send traffic to, like your podcast or forbes article, and paste it into vastclicks.
- Then, vastclicks will generate a unique URL, that you can use in your ad campaigns, email sequences, SMS, messenger bots, etc.
- With your vastclicks account, you will also have the ability to add in your pixel codes for Linkedin, Facebook, Adwords, Twitter and a few other options.
- When you send traffic to this new URL, what happens is that the visitor will click to view your article, and then they will go to Facebook and see your retargeting ad there.
- You could have that retargeting ad expand one what you wrote about in your article so that it complements what they were already interested in viewing and taking them on that customer journey.
By implementing this strategy for our clients, we have helped them build up their authority, social proof and we have seen that this ads have generated an increase in booked calls, because it was the last ad they saw before signing up.
Just as a reminder, you can only track your pixel data when you have actually sent the traffic there, so you’re not able to capture data for the whole website. It’s only the traffic that you have sent there.
It’s a great way to really amplify your message, help maximize your visibility and then retarget the relevant message to your audience.
Now one thing I must make you aware of is that back in May 2018 due to GDPR, Facebook had to update their policies, business tools and custom audiences. There have been conditions that have changed with Pixels, one of which include not being able to install the pixel on a website, asset or domain that you do not own.
It’s a bit of a gray area because it is not being enforced and it is flying under the radar, but that is something to be aware of.
One of the websites that I find shocking that this is no longer allowed on is Eventbrite, because they had a specific place to install your pixel, and it was great for retargeting event campaigns. But Facebook did say “You’re not allowed to install the Facebook Pixel on assets that you don’t own.”
It’s a great tool to use in the meantime, until Facebook decides to shut down these sites that allow this feature.
VASTCLICKS is about $47 a month to get started with, so it’s a valuable tool we love to use and has a lot of great features that are coming out as well.
The moral of the story here is to amplify your message. It’s all about getting visible in 2019 and beyond, and having the content pieces in there that help establish the authority, where you can send traffic to, and then benefit from the retargeting bonuses.
Check it out for yourself and let me know if you’ve got any questions about it or if you are loving the tool as well!
