Should you turn your Facebook Profile into your Business Page

June 19, 2019 by Social Charlie Leave a Comment

Should you turn your Facebook profile into a Facebook Page? I’m Jody from Social Charlie and this is something that I have recently done after thinking about it for 12 months.

I’ve had a Facebook Page for many years, through various different businesses that I had been involved with, from a weight loss company to some other random stuff. Building up followers all along the way to where I am now, although I had a big page, it wasn’t a good quality page. The content very automated and outdated, it just wasn’t a page that I could really get behind anymore. It wasn’t connecting with my ideal audience at all.

My personal profile had friends that I’ve actually connected with through online marketing. People that have seen me in groups or heard about me some way, people who are my ideal clients. I’ve been thinking, should I actually change my personal profile to being the page that I will run my ads from?

When it comes to running Facebook ads, not many people know that the quality of your Facebook Page can actually have an impact on your ad performance because page quality is one of the things that Facebook does rank as it goes through the Facebook algorithm. In other words, if you have a low page quality, it may impact your ads.

You can go to the back end of your page to see the quality score in the settings. For me, it didn’t say that I had a “crap page”. There were no violations but I knew it wasn’t the right page for me anymore.

My personal profile has connected with a lot of my ideal audience, I decided it’s time to change it over and that it was going to be my page. The process is very easy to do, and I actually recorded as I went through it.

Here’s the video for you to watch how easy it is to change your profile into a page.

Keep in mind, Facebook will send a message to everybody in your friend list on your profile, letting them know “Hey, this is now a page” and some people might ask

“Why is this a page now?”

“Why did I automatically like this page?”

It is because they have just been moved over from friend to a follower, and if they don’t want to like the page, that’s fine, they can opt out.

As you go through that page creation process, you can actually select the people that you want to invite to like your page. You don’t need to bring everybody over, I actually went through my list and left some friends and family off my page that obviously wouldn’t be interested in Facebook ads. I didn’t bother inviting them, but I now have a thousand people onto a new page that is very much connected with me and what I do with Facebook ads.

Also, I had to change the names on my personal profile and this new Facebook Page because I wanted my name, Jody Milward, on the page. There are a few things to consider whether it may be right for you.

If you are going into Facebook groups and connecting with people where they have requested to be your friend, then you have been doing Attraction Marketing. This strategy is where you’ve been getting people to connect with you personally, then it may be a very opportune time to switch that profile into a page. If you have a page that is filled with people that aren’t your ideal clients, getting old and disengaged. Then it may be worthwhile to consider in changing from a profile to a page.

You will still keep your profile, everybody that you’re friends with will still be connected with your profile, and the ones that you have selected will be liking your page. All of the content from your profile doesn’t go over to your page, you can select what content pieces you want to go over as the new page is created. However, it doesn’t bring over all the comments in the social proof that may be on those posts, but at least you know that they did get good engagement when it was your personal profile. You could put some ad spend behind it and get that social proof on there again, to people who are in your warm audiences, that’s a classic way to get that social proof up nice and fast.

I wanted to share this option with you in case you weren’t aware that you cannot run ads from a personal profile, you need to have a business page. If you didn’t know that you could ask to get your personal profile moved over to a page, it is possible. Check that out, I’ll even drop a link below that has the Facebook information as to how to go about it, and also a link to the blog post where you’ll be able to see the video that I created as I went through this process.

If you have any questions, drop them below. I would love to come back and answer them for you. I would love to know if you think this is a great idea, if it’s encouraged you to transfer your personal profile over to a business page.
